Shim-Pack XR-ODS are high performance reversed phase columns for HPLC designed for rapid separations. The packing material is composed of 2.2 µm of totally porous, high purity spherical silica particles. The surfaces of the silica particles are chemically bonded with octadecylsilyl (ODS) groups and thoroughly endcapped.
The particle size is a compromise between particle size, separation performance and back pressure. As to be displayed in pictures 1 and 2 comparing 1.8 and 2.2 µm particles the improvement in performance (represent by HETP in µm) are relatively small, however the back pressure of such a column for the same linear velocity is significantly higher.
XR-ODS columns are designed for operating pressure up to 350 (400) bar – they can cover all standard applications by shortening the retention time of the compounds depend on your method settings.
XR-ODS II columns modified with smaller pore size enabling stability under higher operating pressures (~ 700 bar). At the same time it is possible to increase the NTP substantially.
